Big day out
2012-04-29 23:46
I attended the race of Black Caviar and took a lot of photos. They have to be converted, but meanwhile the official statement:

And the whole race:

Feeling bad
2012-04-27 13:13
I just fed Clare in the backyard when I saw a car approaching the gate. A young woman started running and shouting "Are you the woman who's caring for animals?" (How did she know??) "There is a kangaroo with a broken leg laying on the road. It's still alive. I have to move on. Can you help?" What a question. I rushed into the house, grabbed a blanket and the car key and drove into the direction I was told. 1 km drive and there it was. Quite a big wallaroo, a male, desperately trying to escape. He just was able to make it into the bushes. He was too big for me. The leg looked awful. It wasn't a fresh injury, I assume at least 1 or better 2 days old. The thigh was swollen and the distal part was hanging on a small skin layer. The eyes wide open full of fear. I decided to have it killed, but how. I remembered the next farmer only 2 min drive away. When I arrived I was lucky to meet two guys working in the shed. I asked whether they may have a rifle. They looked at me pretty confused but when I told the story of the hurt animal one of the men went to his car, took a rifle and drove with me to the poor thing. One shot between the eyes. Now I'm feeling bad.

To pass the time
2012-04-26 11:28
Today weather forecast:

"North Agricultural for Thursday: Partly cloudy. Patchy early morning fog in the north. Isolated showers. Light winds. Daytime maximum temperatures between 18 and 21."

Not very pleasant - so, why not doing something different, like visiting a circus:

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

THESE ARTISTS ARE N O T ORIGINATED FROM MY ANIMALS! NEITHER CLARE NOR KITTY!!

Bombardment
2012-04-21 22:24
They are crashing into the (single layer) windows and I'm afraid they may destroy them:

No idea what kind of moths they are but they are a lot of them clinging to the entrance door and walls.

PS (next morning): It's a Bogong moth.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogong_moth

Another detail I found: "Before white settlement in Australia, Indigenous people feasted on adult Bogong moths in the mountains. These moths were rich in fat and a reliable source of food, as the moths spent the summer in the relative cool of the mountains before mating. Bogong moths were usually killed or dazed by heat and smoke from torches, then roasted and eaten whole." GOOD APPETITE! (I'm vegetarian.)

White invasion
2012-04-20 14:55
I was awoken by incredible noise.

Hundreds of Little Corellas invaded the property - here a close-up:

They are really sociable birds and interesting to watch, but soo noisy!

Neighbour's sheep were speechless about this behaviour.

Little problem
2012-04-14 22:08
Today I received the ticket for the horse race in Adelaide.

A condition for the entrance: Race dress attire (... not permitted: tracksuits, pullovers, parkas, duffle coats, t-shirts, ...). I only possess a pair of jeans and t-, sweat- and polo shirts. And my surgical gown (= second skin). I don't know what to do. Perhaps I will sell the ticket.

Black Caviar
2012-04-10 10:28
Normally I don't have a special relationship with horses. Oh, wait a minute: I fell off a horse 1992 and acquired an open fracture of my left ankle - this was a very intense relationship!
But beside this incident they are just big animals (for me) which tend to get excited and unpredictable easily. Some people think they are magic. I don't think so. Except - there is always an exemption: Black Caviar.

She is a mighty mare and I saw her running on TV. Here in Australia (especially on the weekend) every channel runs a sport program - cricket, Aussie football, golf,... and of course horse racing. So you can't help to get involved. Also the fuss about the Melbourne/ Adelaide Cup. Holiday in the specific State! Make it short - I'm a fan of Black Caviar. And now she will come to Adelaide! Because my birthday is just around the corner I pampered myself and bought a ticket for the race on 28th of April.
