Feeling bad
2012-04-27 13:13
I just fed Clare in the backyard when I saw a car approaching the gate. A young woman started running and shouting "Are you the woman who's caring for animals?" (How did she know??) "There is a kangaroo with a broken leg laying on the road. It's still alive. I have to move on. Can you help?" What a question. I rushed into the house, grabbed a blanket and the car key and drove into the direction I was told. 1 km drive and there it was. Quite a big wallaroo, a male, desperately trying to escape. He just was able to make it into the bushes. He was too big for me. The leg looked awful. It wasn't a fresh injury, I assume at least 1 or better 2 days old. The thigh was swollen and the distal part was hanging on a small skin layer. The eyes wide open full of fear. I decided to have it killed, but how. I remembered the next farmer only 2 min drive away. When I arrived I was lucky to meet two guys working in the shed. I asked whether they may have a rifle. They looked at me pretty confused but when I told the story of the hurt animal one of the men went to his car, took a rifle and drove with me to the poor thing. One shot between the eyes. Now I'm feeling bad.
