Pharisee!!!
2012-10-06 20:18
Problem solved. I had a chat with the neighbours and they know the white-black tomcat with the sore leg very well. He is eating together with their own cats and even has a special sleeping place! And he always gave me the impression that he is lonely and forlorn. Pharisee, miserable.

Take him or leave him?

I don't know what to do. There is this cat "Mr Verner" roaming around on the property. Last year I borrowed a trap and was able to catch him. He is an old fellow, all 4 fangs were broken off and one of his front legs is stiff. I castrated him, treated an ear infection and administered flea drops. He was so hungry - he even ate chicken food. Now I'm moving and I'm asking myself whether I should take him with me. The problem is: he is wild, very wild. In the trap he was acting like mad. Should I leave him here? I can't imagine that he can support himself - without teeth and with a bad foot. But he will be desperate when he is locked up. And when he escapes at the new place he won't have a chance eather.

Futile efforts!

I watched a busy pair of Willy Wagtails building their nest in the rotary clothes dryer. A perfect little tea cup.
They were so cute to watch.
Loving parents. Two brown-spotted eggs in the size of broad beans.

Of course I didn't use the clothes line! But it was very clear this couldn't last. Too many enemies around: Starlings, Magpies, Ravens - all looking for a snack. So the morning after I took the photographs the whole nest was gone. Hopefully the birdies will now choose a saver place for their offspring.

In the morning I was watering the plants in the backyard when I suddenly recognized the intense smell of a dead animal. I looked underneath the house and there she was.

I knew that this was the place she preferred to hide and I looked there a thousand times but because of her dark fur I never discovered her. There was no obvious cause of death so I opened her body. The 'only' but absolutely deadly reason for her death was blood in the pericardium and some blood in her lungs as well. What ever the cause of the heart sac tamponade was - she didn't suffer long and I wouldn't have been able to help her. Although I'm infinite sad I'm relieved as well.
